From Small things to Big dreams…

1 10 weeks on… at the Broadwater Farm Children’s Center where the SEW Sew for Education and Work programme was launched as part of a NIACE funded replicable sustainable project in partnership with The Haringey Guarantee and the Haringey Adult Learning Service (HALS)… the SEW programme is on its third year, having developed to three centres last year thanks to Cherri Fox vision to share the experience.

This year SEW programme’s theme is “From Small things to Big dreams” to offer a learning progression to comply with Ofsted criteria: the students learn about sketching, making a pattern and stitch a design, top and bottom, to fit a doll, then grade up to fit children and finally an adult size, all neatly packadged in a 10 week capsule…

The Broadwater Farm group is now in their 9th week, the programme is rolling to Bruce Grove Primary school and will start in Park Lane Children Centre in the New Year, to be wrapped up at the end of the School Year in Broadwater Farm Children’s Centre.

This training programme was initiated by CS4 (Creative Studio 4) which is the Design studio set up in 2009 by a group of young women searching for a direction. It is based on the “Frontline” to serve the community with free tuition, low cost alterations and made-to-measure new designs.

One major goal for CS4 growth in 2012-2013 was to rely less on time consuming grant applications and focus more on work to establish sustainable links with the industry by sharing skills for Research and Development. This goal is currently developing thanks to SueMe visionary Managing Director Jools who supports local cottage industries (www.sueme.com).  Building new clothes lines from scratch, sourcing factories in Tottenham and new innovative fabrics in UK and Europe for greener supportive company SueMe, is an on going passion in CS4 … http://www.sueme.com/tottenham-tailor   …..  read on and try a SueMe item, such as the flower shorts made on the Farm…in Tottenham… http://www.sueme.com/index.php?route=blog/category&blog_category_id=20&sort=p.date_added&order=DESC
